Please see message from Anna Trunnell, Region 3 President
Hello ACSA Region 3 Family,
First, on behalf of the Region 3 Executive Board, we want you to know that everyone is in our hearts and minds. We are experiencing unprecedented times, and we know that people are working day and night to ensure the well-being of adults and youth in our communities. Please take time to care for yourself!
A few updates that we want to make sure you are aware of:
· 2020 ACSA Legislative Action Day (4/19-20) – Greg Barge, Region 3 VP of Legislative Action, regrets to report that our 2020 ACSA Legislative Action Day has been cancelled due to rising concerns around the COVID-19 virus. ACSA leaders felt we needed to respond responsibly to concerns of large group meetings and the need for social distancing. Our Governmental Relations staff is working on developing an alternative grassroots advocacy format that will focus on delivering our advocacy message locally that is prioritized around the needs of schools. Greg will email more information about our revised advocacy format when it becomes available. He anticipates small group meetings with one legislator at a time in their capitol or field office, while we discuss chosen education topics. Greg extends his appreciation for all your hard work this year and in past years advocating for students and schools during Leg. Action day events.
· 2020 North State Conference (4/23-26) – Upon the recommendation of the North State Conference planning committee, and in conjunction with actions by the Peppermill Hotel, the North State Conference is being cancelled. The Peppermill has begun canceling room reservations and notifying people who made reservations. Committee members are working on an email to those who have registered for the conference to notify them of the cancellation and communicate how refunds will be handled. More information is forthcoming.
· 2020 Region 3 Administrator of the Year (AOY) Awards Banquet (5/18) – In an abundance of caution, the AOY Awards Banquet is being cancelled. We extend our congratulations to all those who were nominated and those who were selected to receive an award. A separate message will be sent with specifics about award winners. The Region 3 Executive Board is aiming to reschedule this event in the fall. More information coming soon.
Now seems like an appropriate time to check in with others and let them know we are thinking about them. Take a moment and check in with a fellow educator, family member, neighbor, etc. Positivity is good medicine!
I cannot stress enough how much you are appreciated. Our children and families have the best people supporting them!
Stay well,
Anna Trunnell, President
