| ACSA is an organization focused on student advocacy. We are deeply concerned about the potential impact of the rollback of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals on California public school students.DACA allows undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children to legally remain in the country to go to school and find employment.
The decision to end DACA is a direct attack on California families and their children. More than 200,000 California students are impacted by the rollback. The end of DACA paves the way for fear among immigrants who send their children to our schools and expect security and a first-class education. It is our duty as educational leaders to deliver a healthy and safe environment on our school campuses, while also providing students with the resources they need to grow into the next generation of American leaders. Some DACA-protected immigrants may only have six months left in the United States. We want to challenge you to contact your Congressional representative to implement a legislative solution that supports children who may be impacted. Additionally, ACSA’s national affiliate, the National Association of School Superintendents, is convening school leaders in Washington D.C. to advocate for students on Capitol Hill.
