It was more than a celebration it was a reminder of who we are as Region 9: leaders who show up, who believe, and who continue the work even when the results are not immediate.

Before that evening, our Legislative Action Team was in Sacramento advocating for our schools and students, focusing on:

Robust and stable school funding

Protecting classroom continuity

Strengthening and streamlining accountability

This is what leadership looks like celebrating excellence while also advocating for the conditions that make it possible.

At the banquet, I shared a piece of my story. I was once a student who had been written off expelled, labeled, and counted out. But someone chose to see me differently. Someone chose to plant a seed.

And because of that, I stand here today as your Region 9 President.

So I offer this reminder:
If I was not counted out, we cannot afford to count any student out.

Every day, we make decisions that shape futures who gets seen, who gets another chance, who gets believed in. And while the impact may not show up right away, it will.

This year, we committed to Inspire, Advocate, and Lead Strong Together, and we have truly lived that out. We are on the verge of reaching 800 members just two members away. That growth reflects leaders supporting one another, honoring both experience and new voices, and staying committed to something bigger than ourselves.

The seeds we’ve planted across Region 9 are beginning to show a harvest in our students, our leaders, and our communities.

Additionally, we encourage all members to stay engaged in the Region 9 re-election process. On behalf of State ACSA, we sincerely apologize for the recent error in communication. We are grateful for the transparency shown and for the commitment to doing the right thing. As leaders, integrity remains one of our most important responsibilities, and this moment reflects that commitment.

With less than 40 days remaining in my presidency and one final newsletter ahead, I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve and for all we have accomplished together.

So as we close out this year:

Keep planting.
Even when it’s hard.
Even when it’s slow.

Because somewhere, there is a student waiting for someone to believe in them.

Strong Together,
Kimberly Lewis
President, ACSA Region 9

Inspire.
